Well its been quite the weekend. I went to a journalism conference on economics and the RTDNA's in Toronto.
After picking up the regional award for the "Journey of Indigenous Gender Identity" I can now say (boast) that we've also picked up the national award! The "Kelly is greasy while picking up awards" trend continues!
It's voted on by colleagues in the business and includes huge network pieces from places like CBC, so it's such an honour to be recognized. I also was able to meet Linden Macintyre and Lloyd Robertson, and mostly held it together although was not particularly eloquent.
On top of that I was spoiled rotten by the kind people at Global and have to say they are the kindest group to an outsider, thanks for taking me out and showing me Toronto and TV talent and wisdom.
I also stopped by the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and checked out the "First Peoples" area. It was really weird but also interesting, I just wasn't sure how I felt about one of Sitting Bull's headdresses being on display. Some of the art and stories were amazing though and I thought that largely it was done with deep thought, insight, and empathy.
Thank you for all the kind words I've received! Here's to the next adventure!
